Smell the Lilac (Help Please!!!)

I won a beautiful House Mouse stamp on eBay which arrived yesterday and I couldn't wait to have a play...problem is it is a much bigger and far more intricate stamp than I have ever used before.
Can anyone please give me some advice on the best type of paper and ink to use with this type of stamp and how to go about colouring it .
I did make an attempt but not very successfully... I stamped it 3 times on watercolour paper and only the fourth attempt was good enough to have a go at colouring.
Thanks in advance for any advice. Sue :o)

what a gorgeous stamp and I think it looks great. I wonder if using Marvy le plume pens and actually colouring the stamp before stamping would work???!!! I'm thinking using the technique that Art Impressions do with their water colour stamps - you know when after stamping you drag the colour from the stamped edges with a damp brush. I'm probably completely wrong but it was just a thought that might be worth giving a try.

You have made it look gorgeous!
I know what you mean abt House Mouse stamps being intricate,I have some,I tend to watercolour on thickish card.
Might have a go with my distress inks on them, bet they would be great!!! :o)x

I think you did a great job. House mouse are more to work with. I usually stamp on a crisp hard card stock. Right now I am loving the Papertrey Ink. I color most with my Copics, but have had luck with Prima color pencils and gamesol too. I have a tough time with the large stamps... and how to use them on the cards... there just ain't room for anything else but the image. Yours really is wonderful!

I love this card Sue, I think the colouring is great. Maybe you feel it's not because it's just different to the stamps you usually use. Keep up the good work. x

Adorable!! I love lilacs, too...my tree has just blossomed and I was thinking yesterday...I have to send a pic to Sue to show her how beautiful it is!! Honestly!

For inking up my Thomas Kinkades and big backgrounder stamps, I use a rubber brayer and my distress inks...roll the brayer on the inkpad and then onto the rubber. I then lie my CS onto the stamp which is lying ink up on the table...if you have two brayers you can also roll over the paper slowly and carefully not to move it. Then remove the paper and trim the image. With only one brayer, be sure you are stamping on a very hard surface (counter top) and put your inked block onto the paper and press hard on the entire block...standing up works best for me! It takes practice, but does get easier! Try it! :)

Your coloring here looks great...wouldn't purple flocking on the flowers be amazing??

Looks pretty darn good to me Suzanne - I've got that stamp and have never inked it up (not been brave enough lol). Might just give it a try now. Well done you

You may already do this but apparently if you use a foam stamping mat under your paper you gey way great images. I copied this link for you that I came across in my travels.

I know what you mean about getting a clear impression from the big stamps - I always stand up and lean on them and colour with pencils and oms so that there's just an impression of soft colour behind the detail.
